CHICOPEE - Julien Drapeau, 88, founder of Julien Drapeau Home Improvements passed away at his home on Monday, August 6, 2018. He was born in St. Prosper, PDQ, Canada on April 20, 1930 a son of the late Lucien and Georgianna (Champagne) Drapeau and educated in Canada. Julien came to the US as a young man and worked hard as a lumberjack and helped construct the MA Turnpike. He went to work at Big Y where he learned English and remained with the family company for over 10 years and worked as a store manager until he realized he needed to work outside where he felt at home working with his hands. He was a strong generous man who shared his time with the former Nativity Church, was a member of the League of the Sacred Heart, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a faithful parishioner of St. Rose de Lima Church. In 1970 he founded Julien Drapeau Home Improvements and retired in 1990 passing his business on to his son. He was predeceased by his wife and soulmate, Florienne (Larochelle) in November 1999 and leaves behind four beloved children: his son, Julien Drapeau Jr. and his wife Christy of Wilbraham; three daughters, Linda Terzian and her husband Andy of Southwick; Frances Benoit and her husband Robert of Feeding Hills; Carmen McNeil and her husband Jim of Hampden. He also leaves two brothers and three sisters, Levi Drapeau of Chicopee; Roger Drapeau of CA; Suzanne Langelier of Canada; Michelene Champagne of Goshen, MA; Lizette Bledsoe of TX as well as five cherished grandchildren, Eric Cancelliere, Amanda Benoit, Georgianna Drapeau, Isabelle Drapeau and Zane Drapeau and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Julien leaves his lovley companion of 16 years, Therese Gagnon at home. He now joins his parents Lucien and Georgianna and five brothers Remi, Michel, Martin, Charles and Andre Drapeau. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 4-7PM at Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St., Chicopee. Julien’s funeral will begin on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 8:45AM from the funeral home and be followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan St. The Rite of Committal and Burial will be in St. Rose de Lima Cemetery.
