Hampden – James Patrick McInerney, 91, retired U.S. Marine Corps Captain, passed away peacefully on Friday August 13, 2021 at Heritage Hall South in Agawam. Born September 19, 1929 in Holyoke to James P. McInerney and Lillian (Snyder) McInerney, he attended Chicopee Schools, graduating in 1947 from Chicopee High School. In 1948, James enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring in 1969 at Headquarters Marine Corps, Washington D.C. after 21 years of service. He was a life member of EX-POW Association of Western Mass, the Fairview American Legion, the Retired Officers Association, DAV and VFW, Korean War Veterans’ Association of Western Mass, Viet_Nam Chapter of Western Mass, The Chosin Few Chapter of New England, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. James later was employed by Russell Hall in Holyoke, MA, retiring in 1998. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley A. (Francis) McInerney in 2009. He is survived by his son, James P. McInerney of Southwick; his three daughters, Linda A. DeVivo of Chicopee, Sandra A. McInerney of Chicopee and Tracy A. Hess of Southwick; ten grandchildren, and by his companion, Claire Foti. Family and friend are invited to meet a period of visitation on Tuesday August 24, 2021 from 8:00-9:00 a.m. at the Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St., Chicopee followed by a service with Military Honors at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam.
