Walter I. Mercier
1924-2015
SOUTH HADLEY - Walter I. Mercier, 91, departed this earth to be with the love of his life, Rajeanne, on March 21, 2015. He was born in Chicopee on February 20, 1924, a son of the late Lionel and Effie (Barnes) Mercier. Walter was in the US Navy as a Motor Machinists Mate during WWII. He was a welder for Walsh Boiler Works in Holyoke. Walter then raised turkeys with his dad at Turkey Haven, Turkey Farm in Granby, MA. He also worked as an electrician at Clark & Falcetti and AMPAD in Holyoke for many years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Chicopee, and also a member of the United Congregational Church of Christ in Granby, MA. Walter led a long and full life. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Rajeanne R. (Roy) Mercier. He is also predeceased by his brother, Philip N. Mercier; and three sisters, Marilyn Mercier, Winifred Brough, and Louise Pepin. Walter is survived by his three nieces, Darlene Moras and her husband Paul of West Springfield, Karen Emerson and her husband Ronald of Springfield, and Kathleen Pepin of Springfield; four nephews, Richard Brough and his wife Judy of Lake Park, FL, Alexander Brough and his wife Lois of St. Mary’s, GA, Ronald Roy and his wife Terri of Albuquerque, NM, and Michael Pepin of Easthampton; and many grand nieces and nephews. During Walter’s services, the family requests no scents or perfumes be worn due to severe allergies. Calling hours for Walter will be Friday, March 27, 2015 from 4-7PM in the Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St, Chicopee, MA. Services will be on Saturday, March 28 beginning at 9AM at the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in the First Congregational Church, 305 Chicopee St, Chicopee, MA, and burial at West Street Cemetery in Granby.
