Thomas “TomKat” Charles Kotfila, 87, longtime resident of Chicopee and beloved husband for 62 years, to Rose (Mozgala) Kotfila, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in the comfort of his own home in Chicopee with his loving family at his side. Thomas was born on September 19, 1937, in Holyoke, MA, a son of Charles T. and Margaret (Spinks) Kotfila. He was raised and educated in Holyoke and was a 1955 graduate of Sacred Heart High School and later graduated from the Holyoke Business School. Thomas served his country honorably in the US Navy, aboard the USS Olmsted, afterward he was assigned to the Atlantic Reserve Fleet, also known as the Boston Group. He worked at the former A.G. Spalding Company in Chicopee for over 20 years and then after 20 more years as a supervisor at National Metal Finishing, he retired in 1998. Tom was a life member of the Chicopee Lodge of Elks Post # 1849 and was an avid golfer. He leaves behind his loving wife, Rose of Chicopee, and children, Lisa Kotfila of Springfield, Linda Lyons of Sturbridge, Thomas “TJ” Kotfila of Seminole, FL and Jason Kotfila and his wife Christine of Ludlow, brother, Robert Kotfila and his wife Elaine of Easthampton, 7 cherished grandchildren, Adam, Patrick, Sean, Janelle, Liam, Keely and Cullen, sisters in law, Joan Kotfila of Springfield, Cindy Leigh and her husband, Dan of Palmer and Phyllis LaCasse of Ludlow, former son-in-law, Kent Lyons of Stafford Springs, numerous nieces and nephews, and his true best friends, his Grandpups. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Raymond Kotfila, and sisters, Gail Kotfila and Judith Wall. His family wishes to extend their gratitude to all the members of the VNA & Hospice, the VA and WestMass ElderCare for their compassionate and considerate care given to Tom and his family during his time of illness. Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, for calling hours for Tom from 4-7 PM at Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St., Chicopee. Funeral services for Tom will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, beginning at 8:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at St. Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan St., Chicopee. Committal prayers and burial with military honors will follow immediately after the Mass at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
