LUDLOW – Robert F. “Frenchie” Swierad Sr., 63, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, July 15, 2011. He was born in Moisey, France on February 15, 1948 to the late Francois and Irene (Frycia) Questroy. Frenchie attended schools in Chicopee and worked in construction most of his life. He served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. While in the military, Robert earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a proud member of the VFW in Chicopee, the American Legion Post 438 and the DAV. He truly enjoyed gathering with his family to watch his beloved Patriots and the Red Sox. He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Robert F. Swierad Jr. and his wife, Renate of Ludlow; his half brother, Frederick Questroy of France; his two half sisters, Brigitte David of France and Catherine Swierad of Chicopee; his granddaughter, Sara Swierad of Ludlow and his devoted feline friend, Sammy. A funeral procession will form on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at the Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St. Chicopee. Burial with Military Honors will be at 11:00 a.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will be Monday, July 25, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Frenchie’s memory, to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 Attn: Gift Processing.
