Robert Wade Shaw, 93, beloved husband of 68 years, of Marjorie A. (Sims) Shaw, who predeceased him on June 22, 2023, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with his loving family at his side.
Robert was born on August 28, 1931, in Springfield, MA, he was raised and educated in Springfield and was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School and later received his bachelor’s degree in Business from American International College.
He served his country honorably as a Specialist 3 in the U.S. Army, from 1955 to 1958 and was stationed in Orleans, France.
Bob returned to Easthampton, MA and later moved to Shawnee, KS in 1969, before moving back to the Springfield MA area in 1980 and residing in Hampden.
Bob worked for Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company for over 30 years, retiring from the position of Director of Real Estate Investments. Prior to Mass Mutual he was employed at Retail Credit Union, now known as Equifax.
While living in Shawnee, KS, he was on the local planning commission and was a Master Mason at the Shawnee Lodge #54.
Bob was a dedicated and longtime member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in East Longmeadow. He was on the Vestry at the church, a member of its Choir, a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Men’s Club, a Eucharistic Minister, and was on the Building and Grounds Committee. Bob was famous for his pancakes and chili at church events.
He was also an active member of the Hampden Lions and enjoyed his time fundraising through the yearly “Brown Gold” program.
Bob leaves his loving children, his son, Robert W. Shaw, Jr. and his wife Joan of Pembroke, MA, two daughters, Johanna S. Boulting and her husband, Brad of Gardner, KS, and Jennifer S. West and her husband, Eric of Huntington, VT, and his sister in law, June Shaw of Orlando, FL, grandchildren, Kyle and Ryan Shaw, Richard Simpson and his wife, Amiee, Tyler Boulting and his wife, Mariah, Justin Boulting, and Ben and Anna West, three great grandchildren, Case, Clayte, and Camden and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Barbara Robinson and brother in law, Douglas Robinson, and brother, Ronald C. Shaw.
A funeral service will be held for Bob on Saturday June 21st at 1 PM at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1 Porter Rd., East Longmeadow, MA 01028. He will be interred in the Memorial Garden at the church.
