East Longmeadow – Ralph Alvar Johansson, 93, of East Longmeadow, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday September 27, 2025.
Ralph was born on February 27, 1932, in Medford, MA to Carl and Elsa (Pearson) Johansson, Ralph was a 1949 graduate of Medford Vocation High School. Ralph served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War, from 1951 to 1955 aboard the USS Arcadia and USS Yosemite.
Ralph was employed as a Lithographer onboard ship during the war, following the training courses he completed at the Pentagon. While living in Arlington, MA, he and his loving wife, Doris were members of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and upon moving to East Longmeadow, he was a member of Christ the King Church in Wilbraham. He was a volunteer at the New England Seafarers Mission in Boston for many years, as well as a volunteer at Camp Calumet, a Lutheran Ministry Camp that both Ralph and Doris volunteered and supported throughout the years. Ralph also enjoyed golfing, boating and spending time with his loving family. Ralph accomplished every golfer’s dream, shooting an 89 at the age of 90!
There are so many wonderful things to say about Ralph. He never thought he was much of a big deal, but he was a true gentleman. Ralph always strived to do better in life and recognized when people were doing good for others. He was a softspoken and humble man, who had an open mind and was accepting of others. He also had a very funny and silly side to him, and he touched so many lives with his compassionate and caring demeanor.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Doris E. (Carlson) Johansson in 2013, by his son, Robert E. Johannson in 2025 and by his brother, Carl David Johansson.
He is survived by his two daughters, Linda Lindwall and her husband Eric of East Longmeadow and Debra Stalley and her husband Jeff of Southington, CT; three grandchildren, Erik D. Green and his wife Karina and their son, Riker Green, all of Elliot, ME, Kurtis K.
