Peter W. Bowes

Chicopee – Peter W. Bowes, 79, of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 4, 2024, at Mass General Brigham (Cooley Dickinson Hospital) in Northampton. Peter was born in Springfield and grew up in the Hungry Hill neighborhood. He was a graduate of the 1963 Class of Commerce High School. He then attended AIC College, earning his Baccalaureate Degree. He furthered his education at the University of Vermont, majored in Psychology and attained a Ph.D. degree. Peter consulted as a clinical phycologist at various Behavioral Health Agencies Throughout Western Massachusetts (American Geriatrics, Center for Human Development, Arbour, Older Adult Behavioral Services at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Franklin Medical Center). For a short time post-retirement, he worked as a consultant of Protective Services at Greater Springfield Senior Services. In 1991, Dr. Bowes consulted at Chapel Hill Nursing Home in Holyoke. It was there that he met his wife June, the Nursing Supervisor at the facility. Prior to Peter’s retirement, he was a member of the YMCA in Springfield. He spent countless hours there swimming and working out. Because of his outgoing personality, he made many friends there and enjoyed socializing with “the guys”. He also enjoyed fishing and going to casinos to play the slot machines. He was an outdoor enthusiast. Peter had always been an avid reader and more so after he retired. He also enjoyed playing trivia, watching Cable TV (CNN, The History Channel, Discovery, Turner Classic movies, The Game Show Network and the Boston Red Sox games. He loved playing Neil Young CD’s, one of his all-time favorites. Peter was predeceased by his father, John Bowes and mother, Mary (Carmody) Bowes. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, June (Sadowski) Bowes; son, Kevin Bowes of Springfield; daughter, Suzanne Bowes of Belchertown; grandson, Kodi Lanou of South Deerfield; brother, Michael Bowes of North Port, FL; brother-in-law, Frank Sadowski of Hebron, CT; former wife and friend, Francine Bowes of Springfield.
