Chicopee – Norma Jean (Howes) Devender, 91, of Chicopee, passed away peacefully at home on Monday December 1, 2025. Norma was born in Holyoke on April 3, 1934, a daughter of Clifton and Delia (Costello) Howes. She was a graduate of South Hadley High School and was employed as a Book Binder for General Bookbinders in South Hadley for many years, before retiring in 1997.

Norma enjoyed playing bingo, internet card games and day trips visiting the Foxwoods Resort Casino. The family would like to thank the staff of Beacon Hospice in Springfield for their kindness and compassion. Norma will be remembered as a sweet and caring person, and a wonderful mother and grandmother.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arthur Devender in 1997, and by her six siblings, John, Kenneth and Clifton Howes, Ann Barnwell, Ilene Dellmyer and Edna Giard.

She is survived by her loving children, David Devender of Chicopee, Susan Renaud of Ludlow, Karl Devender of Chicopee and Nancy Sokoloski of Chicopee; by her granddaughter, Rachele Silliker of Keene, NH and by many nieces and nephews.

All services will be private for the family.
