Chicopee – Michael J. Romanowicz, 81, of Chicopee, passed away Monday October 25, 2021 at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Chicopee, MA on July 10, 1940 to Michael A. and Frances J. (Chliszczyk), he was a lifelong area resident.
He served his country honorably in the Unites States Navy and worked as a Correctional Officer in Somers, CT for over 20 years before retiring. After retirement, Michael kept busy with many extra jobs over the years. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing pool. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee and member of the American Legion and Chicopee Sportsman Club.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Catherine A. “Cathy” (Roda) Romanowicz in 2009; by his daughter, Joann in 1975 and his siblings, Walter and John Romanovicz.
He is survived by his children, Corinne Buchanan and her husband Gary of Chicopee, Frances Nicholas and her partner Brian Frary of Putnam, CT and Michael Romanowicz of Sheffield, MA; his brother, Paul Romanovicz of Chicopee; his sister, Pauline Harding of Chicopee; nine adored grandchildren, Joann, Jessica, Jennifer, Sarah, Robert, Billy, Calvin, Benjamin and Alex; six great grandchildren, Jacob, John, Kaylob, K’dynce, Sean and Damien, and several nieces and nephews including, Dianne Lenox of Chicopee.
Family and friends are invited to meet for visitation on Wednesday November 3rd, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at the Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St., Chicopee followed by his Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 56 St. Anthony St. in Chicopee. Committal services with Military Honors will be in St. Rose de Lima Cemetery. www.brunellefuneralhome.com
