MARY J. CHARTIER
1915 – 2010
CHICOPEE - Mary J. Chartier, formerly of Chicopee and Holyoke, MA died on Monday, November 15, 2010 at Heritage Hall North in Agawam, MA. Her beloved late husband, Edgar Chartier died on May 10, 1993. Born in Middletown, OH on October 15, 1915, she was the daughter of the late
George and Mary (Vaughn) Veitch. She and her late sister, Florence (Canata) Lozo were raised
and educated in Holyoke. Mary and Edgar loved to dance as well as entertain and visit family
and friends. Mary enjoyed baking, knitting, doing crosswords, making beautiful ceramic
objects, and theorem paintings. In her earlier life she was President of St. Mary’s Catholic
Women’s Guild, Member of the Chapin School PTA, and a Volunteer Aid at Our Lady of
Providence Home for Children. She also worked as a sales clerk at both Steigers and Forbes &
Wallace Department Stores. She leaves two daughters, Nancy Marie Michon and her husband
John of Chicopee, MA., and Gail Ann Dzialo Barrett and her husband David of Montgomery,
AL. She is also survived by her former son-in-law, Walter Dzialo and his wife Sherry of
Montgomery, AL. She leaves six grandchildren: Michael Michon and his wife, Stella of
Longmeadow, MA., Melanie Michon of Millbrook, NY, and Maureen Gallant and her husband,
Attorney Anthony Gallant of Chicopee, MA., Mark Dzialo of Montgomery, AL., Dr. Robin
Dzialo Hatton and her husband Dr. Sean Hatton of Birmingham, AL., and Todd Dzialo and his
wife Dianne of Alexandria, VA. She leaves her beloved great grandchildren: Ellen Mary and
Samantha Grace Michon of Longmeadow, MA and Alexander and Nicole Marie Hatton of
Birmingham, AL. Mary leaves several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by family
and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff at Heritage North and the VNA Hospice staff
for their tender loving care. The funeral will begin Friday at 8:45 a.m. from the Brunelle Funeral
Home, 811 Chicopee St., Willimansett, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St.
Stanislaus Basilica, 566 Front St., Chicopee. The burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, South Hadley.
