Marjorie A. Shaw

Marjorie Ann (Sims) Shaw, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday June 22, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. She was born on November 6, 1931 in Boston, MA to Walter G. and Mildred G. (Smith) Sims, and was a 1949 graduate of Needham, MA High School. Marjorie went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching from Westfield State College, now University.
Bob and Marjorie met while at school in 1951. She started her teaching career at an elementary school in Natick, MA. Bob and Marjorie married in 1955, and in 1956, Marjorie accompanied Bob on his US Army tour in Orléans, France. There, she taught in the US Army school for the dependent children. When they returned from France, Marjorie worked in the Easthampton, MA and Great Barrington, MA schools until she and Bob moved to Shawnee, KS in 1969. While in Kansas, she was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, taught Sunday school and did part-time and volunteer work in the Shawnee Mission School District.
In 1980, Marjorie and Bob moved to Hampden, MA where they remained with their family. Marjorie enjoyed a number of years part-time teaching and volunteering at Thornton Burgess School in Hampden. She was a longtime member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in East Longmeadow where she was a member of its choir, altar guild and a Sunday school teacher. She also belonged to the Daughters of the King. Marjorie was a kind and caring soul with a playful sense of humor. Her family meals provided years of entertainment and was well known for her ‘liver tacos’ and extra crispy grilled cheese with the best side always facing up.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Robert W. Shaw of Hampden; her son, Robert W. Shaw, Jr. and his wife Joan of Pembroke, MA; two daughters, Johanna S. Boulting and her husband Brad of Gardner, KS and Jennifer S. West and her husband Eric of Huntington, VT; her sister, Dorothy Remson of San Jose, CA; her grandchildren, Kyle and Ryan Shaw, Richard Simpson and his wife, Amiee, Tyler and his fiancée Mariah, and Justin Boulting, and Ben and Anna West; two great-grandchildren, Case and Clayte; sister-in-law, Evelyn Sims; sister-in-law June Shaw and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Walter G. Sims, Jr, brother-in-law, Albert Remson, sister-in-law Barbara Robinson and brother-in-law Doug Robinson.
A funeral service will be held for Marjorie on Saturday, July 8th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where she will be interred in the Memorial Garden. There are no calling hours. Brunelle Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Marjorie’s memory to the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1 Porter Rd.
