MARGARET A. KRATZER
1934 – 2012
CHICOPEE- Margaret A. (Fogel) Kratzer, 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 20, 2012 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Margaret was born in Palmerton, PA on August 12, 1934, the daughter of the late Clayton W. and Mammie Fogel. She was a 1952 graduate of Palmerton High School and a longtime Chicopee resident. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years Earnest J. Kratzer in 2008 and also joins two brothers, Kenneth W. Fogel and Carl C. Fogel who rest eternally. She enjoyed playing Bingo, arts and crafts, bell ringing, singing, traveling, collecting angel figurines and watching Wheel of Fortune and Days of Our Lives. Margaret did much of this throughout her life and also during her time at Birch Manor Nursing Home. She is survived by her five children, Bonny and Will Knight of Scottsdale, AZ; Becky Lavelle of Chicopee; Suzanne and Gerry Labonte of Chicopee; Earnie Jr. and Laurie Kratzer of Chicopee and Cheryl and Rene Doming of Northampton. She will be missed by her 15 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Steven, Jill, Greg, Justin, Will, Jay, Alex, Amanda, Shelley, Samantha, Madeline, Dakota, Alex and Troy. Margaret also leaves four great grandchildren, Morgan, Cooper, Evangeline and Amelia. She will be remembered for her love of family and enjoyment of life by her nieces, nephews, extended family members and her friends at Birch Manor. The Kratzer family would like to express their appreciation for the professional care given to Margaret by the staff at Birch Manor. In addition, the family would also like to thank the staff at Baystate Medical Center. The Kratzer family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be directed to Birch Manor Nursing Home Activities Fund, 44 New Lombard Rd., Chicopee, MA 01020. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 from 4-6 PM at Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St., Chicopee, MA 01013. A funeral home service will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 10 AM and will be followed by the burial in St. Rose Cemetery, Granby Rd., South Hadley, 01075. Please visit
