Chicopee – Kayel Adam Gouin, 16, lifelong resident of Chicopee, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side, after a courageous fight with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer.
Kayel was born in Chicopee on October 6, 2008, to Heather M. Sumowski of Chicopee. Kayel loved football and hockey and could often be found playing his favorite video game, Call of Duty. He loved all of his family and friends and enjoyed having everyone over at his home. Kayel was very fond of his emotional support kitty, whom he personally named after his initials K.A.G., that way after he was gone, his mother would have the kitty to remember him by.
Kayel was brave, and true fighter. The family is grateful for all the prayers and community support this past year.
Besides his loving mother, Heather, he is survived by his maternal grandfather, John Sumowski and his wife, Mema Lynda of Agawam who Kayel loved so much and was so grateful for their amazing bond throughout his life; his paternal grandfather, Gerald “Jerry” Gouin; brother, Jamie; half-brother, Jackson; his aunt and uncles that were just like siblings to him, James and John and Jasmine Brouillard; aunt, Amy Sumowski and her children, Aidan, Ryder, and Kareanna; aunt, Jillian Gouin and many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Karen Sumowski in 2011 and paternal grandmother, Lori Gouin in 2018.
