JOSEPH G. LEONARD, SR.

1931-2012


CHICOPEE- Joseph G. Leonard Sr., 80, of Chicopee, formerly of Sebastian, FL passed away Tuesday, January 24, at home. He was born March 14, 1931, in Bronx, New York a son of the late Lillian (Page) and Gordon Leonard. Leonard was a Veteran of the National Guard and U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was a dedicated security guard at John’s Island for many years and previously employed by Holyoke Hospital. Joseph lived with reason. He demonstrated this in the great love he has for his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and other family members. Joseph leaves his loving wife and caregiver of 34 years Joan (Baillargeon) Leonard, his two sons; John D. Leonard Sr. and his wife Barrie (Chambers) of South Hadley; James M. Leonard and his Fiancé Judy Gedman, of Melbourne, FL; his two daughters; Kathyleen Boze and her husband Roy Boze of Chicopee; Tina McCollaum and her husband Willie McCollaum Jr. of Chicopee; his three stepchildren; Kimberly Hale of Brett Maggie Valley, NC; Wendy Logan of Henniker, New Hampshire; John Greany of Westfield; his two brothers; Kenneth Leonard of Belchertown; Thomas Leonard of Washington; his four sisters; Bertha Lemay of CT; Pat Russo of CT; Barbara Warren of Cape Cod; Claire Carriveau of Chicopee; 15 adored grandchildren, four step grandchildren and17 great grandchildren. Joseph was predeceased by a son Joseph G. Leonard Jr. and his former wife Rita M. (McClain) Desroches. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Joseph’s memory to The Holyoke Soldier’s Home Tree of Life, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA 01040. Visiting hours will be held Friday, January 27, 2012 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St., Chicopee, MA 01013. A funeral ceremony will follow at 3:00 PM. The burial will be private.
