Tribute
On Thursday March 3, John K Bennett Jr passed away at home. John was born June 1, 1933 in Philadelphia to Emma May and John K Sr, but spent the last 56 years as a resident of Hampden. John served his country proudly in the US Army during the Korean War era serving in Germany. He had many hobbies including golf, fishing, baseball/ softball, and he was the first member of the Professional Bowlers Association from the Springfield area. He worked in the bowling business most of his adult life, where he managed Schine 10 pin, and got to meet Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) while he trained for a fight vs Sonny Liston. In his retirement, Jack spent many days at Cedar Knob Golf Course in Somers playing golf in the Men’s Club, and hanging out with the guys. John and his late wife Barbara loved to travel, and took many cruises, and trips to LBI with family. John is predeceased by his wife of 62 years Barbara in 2020. He leaves 2 loving sons, John and his wife Sandra of California, and Jeff and his wife Carly of Springfield. GrandPa Jack leaves 3 beautiful grandkids, whom he adored, Andrew, Violetta and Madelyn. John also leaves a brother, Russell and his wife Carol of Chicopee, and was preceded in death by brothers Bill and Donald. Several special people were kind and helpful to Jack in his last years without Barbara by his side, and their care, and thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated. Special thanks to Ann, Joanie and Aunt Chris for their time, help and care. At this time, no funeral arrangements will be made, and we hope to have a memorial service later in the spring.
