Ludlow – George F. Roberts, Sr., 80, died at home on Thursday, July 30, 2009.  He was born in Dorchester, MA on January 21, 1929, a son of the late James and Mary (Hogarth) Roberts.  He attended local schools and proudly served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.  He was a former fifty five year Holyoke resident and most recently of Ludlow.  He was a licensed industrial electrician and retired after thirty years of service from Monsanto (Solutia).  George will be remembered as a man that was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone he met and was loved by many.  He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty seven years, Elinor (Bakos) Roberts, three sons, Wayne and his wife Debora of Holyoke, Michael and his fiancée Christine Goucher of Billerica, MA, and George of Ludlow.  He also leaves one sister, Elizabeth Sassen of Milford, Ct.  He will be sadly missed by seven grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Buddy, and his sister, Mary Elwell.  Relatives and friends are invited to gather for a Memorial Mass on Saturday, September 12 for 10am at St. Anne Church, 30 College St. in Chicopee.  There are no calling hours.  The Brunelle Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.  Memorial contributions in George’s name may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, 264 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104.  Please visit www.brunellefuneralhome.com for an online guestbook.
