1922-2019
CHICOPEE- Frank J. Sawicki, 96, of Chicopee, passed away at the Hospice of Fisher Home in Amherst on Saturday, February 23, 2019. He was born in Chicopee on September 6, 1922, a son of the late Boleslaw and Mulvina (Buynicki) Sawicki. He was educated in Chicopee and proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. Frank was married to Helen (Topor) Sawicki on August 4, 1946, and she predeceased him in 1971. Frank had several enjoyments, including bowling, fishing, playing cards, going to the casino, dancing, and attending Polish picnics. He was a member of the Polish American Vets, MA Association for the Blind, Chicopee Elks Lodge, and the Polish Home Alliance. Frank will be dearly missed by his loving daughters, Melanie Anas of Chicopee; Nancy Canevari and her husband Andrew of Villages, FL; his granddaughters, Jennifer Johnson and her husband Donald; Monique Goldschmidt and her husband Christopher; his adored great-grandchildren, Claire, Lauren, Courtney, and Tate, as well as several extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his siblings, Stella, Lena, Helen, Steve, and Kasimer. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 1-4PM at Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee Street, Chicopee, MA with a funeral home service at 3:30PM. The Rite of Committal and Burial will take place on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 12noon in the chapel of St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Montgomery Street, Chicopee. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank’s name may be made to the US Dept of VA Affairs Eastern Blind Rehab Center, 950 Campbell Avenue NC 124, West Haven, CT 06516, the Blinded Veteran’s Association, 14 Marehaven Drive, Seekonk, MA 02771, or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
