Ernest Smith

Ernest Smith, 76, of Springfield, passed away Friday April 12, 2024, at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. Ernest was born on August 28, 1947, in Stephens, Georgia to the late Pete and Katie Mae (Gresham) Smith. He served his country honorably as a Specialist 4 in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. And was a Truck Driver with various companies throughout his career.
Besides his parents, Ernest was predeceased by his daughter, LaKyna Smith in 2021; his son, Anthony Arnez Smith in 2022, and by his siblings, Lula Mae Mattox, Annie Ree Mattox, Lorraine Smith, Will H. Smith and Luther R. Smith.

He leaves his loving and devoted wife, Dorothy (Hull) Smith of Springfield; his sisters, Atlean Huff, Fannie (Bobby) Pittman, all of Athens, GA, Mary Parisien of Newark, NJ; brothers, James (Emma) Smith and Johnny Smith, all of Springfield; grandchildren, Jenai Smith, Cheyenne Smith, Anthony Smith, Khynia Harris, and A’Naya Smith all of Springfield; and his greatgrandchildren, Demetrius “Trevon” Moore, Kyrie Smith and Drelynn Edwards, all of Springfield and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends

A graveside service with military honors will be held for Ernest on Friday May 3rd, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay St. in Springfield. There are no calling hours. Brunelle Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. www.brunellefuneralhome.com
