Ernest Arthur Quenneville, 87, beloved husband of 35 years to Anne E. (Cowdrey) Quenneville who predeceased him in 1996, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
Ernest was born on October 9, 1938, in Holyoke, MA, son of Levi A. and Ora M. (Cote) Quenneville.
He was raised and educated in Chicopee, where he was a lifelong resident.
Ernest was a machine operator, for over 27 years, at James River Graphics in South Hadley and was most recently a machine operator at Premelin Paper Mill in Holyoke, before fully retiring in 2003.
He was a true outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting with a bow or rifle.
Ernest also loved to fish wherever and whenever he could. It didn’t matter whether he dropped a line in the ocean, through the ice or in a brook, he was always content.
Along with his wife, he was a seasonal camper at Windy Acres in Westhampton. He enjoyed sitting by the campfire, being outdoors, and spending time with other seasonal campers they became friends with while camping there over the years.
Ernest was a skilled woodworker who enjoyed making bird feeders, bird houses, and windmills. He also enjoyed listening to country music or any music that had a fiddle.
In the spring and summer months, he tended to his prized vegetable garden including tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and sunflowers.
Ernest leaves his loving daughter, Lisa McGrath and her husband, David of Indian Orchard, sister, Katherine Dant of Chicopee, grandchildren, Arielle Balducci and her husband, Paul of Plainville, CT, Michael Baracchi and his partner Rick James of Enfield, CT, Jennifer McGrath of West Springfield, Matthew McGrath of Easthampton, and Catherine McGuirt and her husband, Brian of West Lafayette, IN, great grandchildren, Paul Balducci Jr. and Gianna Balducci, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also predeceased by his daughter, Deborah Baracchi, sisters and their husbands, Sheila and Robert Hatter and Pauline and Frank Arnett and by his great grandson Joseph Balducci.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, October 24, for visiting hours for Ernest from 4-7PM at Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St., Chicopee, MA.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, beginning at 8:45AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at St. Anne Church, 30 College St., Chicopee. Burial will follow immediately after the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery in South Hadley.
