Douglas Sky Wight, a recent resident of Greenfield, MA, passed away on August 27, 2026 due to natural causes. Growing up in Westfield, NJ, he enjoyed athletics, particularly tennis and wrestling. After graduating from Gettysburg College, PA and obtaining a master's degree in recreation from Indiana University, he began a career in recreational management. For many years, he was the manager of athletic programs for the YMCA in the Meadowlands area in N.J. Later, he developed an interest in community activism, primarily around global warming and climate change. He attended summits in Copenhagen and Paris as a member of the press and served the community in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. In more recent years in Greenfield, MA, his service was devoted to neighbors in need. Nick-named Captain Douggers for his vision and mission to build community, he inspired others with whom he shared the same calling. His exuberant spirit and passion for humanity will be missed by many who knew and loved him, including his surviving siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews.
