He was born on April 2, 1943 in Springfield, Massachusetts and grew up in the Kensington section of Berlin, Connecticut. Art graduated from St Thomas Aquinas High in 1961 and later attended college at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston prior to entering the Air Force during the Vietnam War.
