Arlie E. Burns Jr.

January 8, 1931 — November 17, 2024

Arlie Eugene Burns, Jr., 93, of Chicopee, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday November 17, 2024. Born on January 8, 1931, in Jackson, MI, to Arlie E. Sr. and Julia (Papiersky) Burns, he was raised and educated in Jackson, MI and was a graduate of Jackson High School and prior to the Air Force served in the United States Navy ROTC program. He later received his associate degree from Springfield Technical Community College.
Arlie served his country honorably for over 24 years in the United States Air Force as a Technical Sergeant and later held a longtime position with the United States Post Office as a Postmaster. He was also the Manager at Friendly’s and a member of the American Legion.
Arlie enjoyed spending time with his many friends over the years, as well as traveling, golfing, bingo, computer games, bowling and movie nights.
He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 66 years, Sylvia (Smith) Burns of Chicopee; his children, Michael Burns (Gayla) of FL, Teresa Burns and her partner Michael Schaefer of Clinton, CT, Jacqueline Burns of Kissimmee, FL, Andrew Burns of Chicopee, Allan Burns of Chicopee and Tammy Burns of Kissimmee, FL; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Steve, Jr. (Cindy), Krystle, Sylvia (Nicholas) and Heather (Anthony); and ten great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Julie Burns in 2018; his son, Steven Burns in 2020; his siblings, Francis Burns and Carlene Burns and by his favorite cat, Missy Boo.
A funeral home service will be held for Arlie on Monday, Nov. 25, at 1:30 p.m. at Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St., followed by committal prayers with military honors at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. For online condolences please visit www.brunellefuneralhome.com
