CHICOPEE – Anita H. (Blanchard) Lukas, 86 years old, died at her daughter’s home in East Longmeadow, MA, August 15, 2009, surrounded by her caring family. She was born to Theophile and Edwardina (Lemay) Blanchard on December 21, 1922 in Chicopee and was a life-long resident. She was the wife of the late Charles Joseph Lukas, who predeceased her in 1965. Anita leaves a loving son and daughter-in-law, Charles Lukas Jr. and Kristina (Winiarz) Lukas of Springfield, as well as her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Christine Wilk and Robert Wilk of East Longmeadow. Anita also leaves two cherished grandsons: David Lukas of Springfield and Jeffrey Lukas and his wife Deborah (Kempesty) Lukas of Palmer and their two children, Gabriella and Ashley, very special great-granddaughters who filled Anita’s life with endless joy. In addition to her family, Anita will be missed by a number of nieces, nephews and dear friends. A 1940 graduate of Cathedral High School, Anita married Charles Lukas Sr., in 1945. She had a successful career as Patients Account Manager at Holyoke Hospital. She was a member of the Quota Club of Holyoke, Patient Accounts Manager Guild, Chicopee Cultural Council, Chicopee Historical Society, and the Bellamy Association. A successful, talented artist, she was also a member of the Deerfield Valley Art Association. Anita’s example was an inspiration to her family and all those around her. She was a fine wife, mother, business woman, and community activist who will be missed by all who knew her. At her request, her funeral and burial will be private.
