    Roger E. Gilcris

    July 30, 1944 - April 5, 2010

    Roger E. Gilcris 1944 � 2010 CHICOPEE � Roger E. Gilcris, 65, died Monday, April 05, 2010 at his daughter�s home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lancaster, N.H. on July 30, 1944 to Pearl P. (Demers) Gilcris of Groveton, N.H. and the late Charles W. Gilcris. Roger attended schools in N.H. and graduated from Groveton High School in 1962. Mr. Gilcris served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. While in the military, Roger attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and earned many commendations including, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, 2 Overseas Bars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal and the Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver Bar and Mechanic Bar. After his discharge from the Army, Roger returned to New Hampshire. After several years, Roger and his family moved to Chicopee where he resided for the reminder of his life. He worked at the former Ampad in Holyoke for over twenty-five years and was a member of their Retirement Club. He was a parishioner of the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee. Mr. Gilcris was a devoted family man. He also loved to spend his leisure time fishing. Beside his mother, Roger leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of forty three years, Sylvia (Lynch) Gilcris of Chicopee; his son, Christopher M. Gilcris of Brandon, VT; his two daughters, Robyn J. Iserman and her husband Alan of Agawam and Ann-Marie P. Malloy and her husband Kevin of Chicopee; his three brothers, Ronal Gilcris and his wife Rosalie of Groveton, N.H., Denis Gilcris and his wife Cheryl of St. Paul, MN and Tracy Gilcris and his wife Betty of Groveton, N.H.; his two sisters, Dorothy Powell and her husband Walter of Fairfield, ME and June Goulet and her husband Wayne of Groveton, N.H.; his four grandchildren, Ashlyn and K. Shane Malloy and Matthew and Heather Iserman and his mother-in-law, Beatrice Lynch of Colebrook, N.H. Roger is also survived by several other family members. There will be a prayer service on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St, Chicopee, MA. Burial will follow the service at 11:00 a.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans� Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. A calling hour will precede the service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions, may be made in Roger�s memory, to the Holyoke VNA, 113 Hampden St. Holyoke, MA. 01040.
