GRANBY � Joseph Albert �Al� Lariviere, 80, died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Hadley at Elaine Care and Rehab Nursing Home. He was born in Holyoke on January 14, 1931 to the late Albert E. and Diane (McLean) Lariviere. Al attended schools in Holyoke and South Hadley. Upon his graduation from South Hadley High School in 1949 he furthered his studies at UMASS Stockbridge where he earned an Associate�s Degree in Animal Husbandry. In his youth, Al was a professional and well respected boxer at the former Valley Arena in Holyoke. He spent most of his life working as a co-owner of Granby L & L Concrete, and retired in 1989 after many years of service. Al was a longtime parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Granby. He was an active member of the Wrestling Booster Club for Granby High School. Al truly loved all sports but found fishing to be his favorite pastime. He enjoyed his family trips to Lake Katahdin in Maine. Al will always be remembered as being a devoted husband and a wonderful father. He leaves on this earth to cherish his memory, his wife of sixty years, Rita M. (Gaudette) of Granby; his five sons, Allen J. Lariviere and his wife, Rosemarie of Springfield, Rene A. Lariviere and his companion, Joanne Corbitt of Granby, Verne E. Lariviere and his wife, Deborah of Huntington, Ian P. Lariviere and his wife, Brenda of Ludlow and Samuel F. Lariviere and his wife, Lisa of Oak Ridge, TN; his four daughters, Linda J. Laprade and her husband, Andre of Barrington, N.H., Ila D. Smith and her husband, Daniel of Holyoke, Erin A. Kelly and her husband, John of Holyoke and Echo L. Cooke-Yanosky and her husband, Chuck of Granby; his brother, Ernest L. Lariviere and his wife, Janet of Granby; his sister, Aline Wellworth of Trinity, FL; his twenty-five grandchildren and his ten great grandchildren. Al will also be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents, Al was also predeceased by his daughter, Ruth M. DeTour in 1984. A funeral procession will form on Tuesday, May 17 at 8:30 a.m. at the Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St. Chicopee. There will be a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby. Burial will follow the Liturgy in West St. Cemetery in Granby. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Monday, May 16 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to celebrate Al�s life.
