SOUTH HADLEY- Normand Gerald La Douceur, 89, a longtime South Hadley resident passed away on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2017 in Holyoke. He was born in Holyoke on May 25, 1927 a son of the late Armand and Grace (Martel) La Douceur and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1944. Normand enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and served honorably for 24 years until his retirement from the military in 1968 as a Sergeant. Most recently, he worked for the Town of South Hadley as Highway Department. Prior to that, he worked for several years at Food Mart, Ludlow Marvellum and was one of the founders of The Renegade Bowling League. He was an avid bowler, a Red Sox fan, loved the outdoors and was always willing to help anyone in need, especially his family. He was predeceased by his wife of over 34 years Ase E. (Christiansen) in 1989. He leaves behind two sons, Alan LaDouceur and his wife Mercedes of FL; Roy La Douceur of Chicopee; his daughter, Lisa Scagliarini of Chicopee and nine cherished grandchildren. He also leaves his son in law Steven Scagliarini as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Normand was also predeceased by his siblings, Estelle Gingras, Phyliss LaDouceur, Gloria LaDouceur, Roger LaDouceur, Armand LaDouceur and Charles LaDouceur. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 4-7PM at Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St., Chicopee, MA 01013. Normand’s funeral will begin on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 7:15AM from Brunelle’s and be followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 8:30AM in St. Patrick’s Church, 30 Main St., South Hadley, MA 01075. The Rite of Committal and Burial with military honors will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, So. Hadley.
